Mercer Island High School Associated Student Body

ASB Mission Statement

2023-2024 Mission Statement Summary: Creating a culture of spirit and inclusivity at MIHS through successful projects and clear communication.

We plan to do this by:

  1. Rethinking Current ASB Initiatives
    1. Taking student input through forms, conversations, and formulating them into new actions to change current leadership traditions like Homecoming, Winter Formal, assemblies, etc.
    2. Bringing new ideas and events that engage the student body so improvements are more noticeable.
  2. Improving Accountability
    1. Communicating information on Leadership committees, who is working on each committee, when the committee plans to deliver the project, and reflections on the project, so Leadership is accountable both internally and to the student body.
    2. Publishing and updating an ASB website with information for Leadership events and projects, announcements for sports, information for clubs, weekly reports, summations of Leadership’s accomplishments, and a contact info page with a suggestions and concerns submission box, etc.
    3. Posting questionnaires after major events and at regular intervals so Leadership obtains personalized feedback to improve events in the future.
  3.  Promoting New and Individual Initiatives
    1. Giving time and resources to officers within Leadership to create and promote individual passion projects (e.g., chess tournaments, culture fair, etc.).
    2. Organizing a system to constantly test ideas to make our school better with the goal of consistent productivity and creating a self-reinforcing leadership class.
